Make only what you need and eliminate waste.
At Runtrip Store, we sell a "selection" of items that we use every day for running, items that we wholeheartedly recommend, and also create and sell completely original items. In particular, when it comes to original items, we have five "manufacturing policies."
This may be a sudden question, but do you know what percentage of the clothes produced around the world are discarded each year?
Although the data is a little old, as of 2015, the annual consumption of clothes produced was 40% (62 million tons), while the amount was discarded was about 1.5 times that amount, at 92 million tons. In other words, it is 60% of the total. By the way, if the amount of discarded clothes is converted into the number of pieces, it means that about 300 billion pieces of clothes are thrown away every year all over the world. In recent years, the use of recycled materials has become more common, and the word "sustainable" has become more widely used, but unfortunately, 82% of discarded clothes are incinerated or landfilled, and only 18% are reused or recycled. By the way, the same situation applies to food, where one-third of the food produced for human consumption in the world is discarded, or 13 tons per year.
We have reaped many benefits from the market economy and capitalism that have brought about rapid modernization. However, this excessive "growth-firstism" has produced a lot of "waste," which has had a major negative impact on our precious global environment. The "waste rate" figures mentioned earlier can be seen more clearly if you go to the major apparel shops and supermarkets that we see every day. There are an enormous amount of products on display, far more than what is purchased every day.
One approach that we, a tiny people, can take to address this global issue is to simply "make only what is needed." It is self-evident that having excess "inventory" is a bad move from the perspective of company management and economic rationality, but more importantly, there is our "base" that we must protect. Without this rich and blessed earth and environment, we would not be able to enjoy running safely every day. The ultraviolet rays that grow stronger day by day, the sudden torrential rain... Rather than running in fear of such threats, we would like to run forever, feeling the beauty of fresh greenery and the scent of the sea breeze with our whole body.
Thanks to you, Runtrip Store's original items are well received every time they are released, and many items sell out. We are very sorry to everyone who wanted them but was unable to buy them, but we would like to give up the option of making so many that we end up with excess as much as possible. At the end of each season, almost every manufacturer holds a "sale." This is because it is "bad" in business management to have a large amount of products that are not sold and become "dead stock." Rather than leaving unprofitable inventory in the warehouse, we are trying to turn it into cash, even if it is a small amount, by discounting it.
So we "make only what we need."
We try to avoid sales as much as possible. In this way, we hope to ultimately eliminate the option of throwing things away, both at work and at home.
Even so, it is extremely difficult to reduce product waste to zero. As long as we continue our business and company, we need to make solid sales every month and year, make profits, and continue to grow. I realize how difficult it is to always be proactive in taking risks and run a business that produces as little waste as possible.
Starting Friday, August 18, 2023, Runtrip Store has decided to sell some of the items scheduled for discontinuation at a discounted price until the end of August, calling it an "Archive Sale." We hope that everyone can understand that this initiative has the background and struggles described above.
We will continue to do our best to provide the best service possible at Runtrip Store.
"Make only what you need and eliminate waste."
With this in mind, I would like to continue providing everyone with a "lifestyle with running."
