NEW ITEM | Original sports hand towel
On Monday of the week in which the Tokyo Marathon 2023 will be held, we have started selling our new original item, the Runtrip × CHAORAS Sports Hand Towel, following on from the 5-panel cap.
The reason we decided to make our own original "Sports Tenugui" is because the Runtrip Store staff loves them. When the staff came across a collaboration item with the outdoor fashion brand GRAMiCCi by chance, they fell in love with how easy it was to use, so we decided to make our own original item.

Design Story
Tenugui are a convenient piece of gear that lightly supports a running lifestyle even in modern times. Tenugui have supported the lives of Japanese people since ancient times and were loved as a fashion item among common people in the Edo period.
Tenugui have a somewhat retro image and may not seem to have much affinity with running. However, when I encountered CHAORAS' Sports Tenugui, I realized that they have value as gear that supports the running life.

What is the difference between this and a regular tenugui?
Tenugui are highly practical items that have been used in Japanese life since ancient times.
They are highly absorbent, quick-drying, lightweight and compact. They are made of 100% cotton and are gentle on the skin. We have focused on the potential of tenugui and evolved them into "Sports Tenugui" to match the modern sports and outdoor scene.
Regular tenugui towels have their edges left unfinished. This tailoring allows them to dry quickly and prevents the growth of bacteria. However, when you're enjoying running or trail running, fraying can be a real concern. Sports tenugui towels have these frayed edges sewn together with a serger.
The appeal of sports tenugui
1. Gentle and light texture
The best thing about the "Sports Tenugui" is its texture. Regular tenugui are a little stiff to the touch when you first start using them, but they soften as you use them.
The "Sports Tenugui" towels are specially treated with a fabric softener containing camellia oil (ab・soft®), making them a gentle item that feels good on the skin without sacrificing absorbency.
2. A size that is easy to use for running
A typical tenugui is 90cm in size, but the sports tenugui is a little longer at 110cm. It is the perfect length to wear around your neck or wrap twice around your head.
3.Quick drying and odor resistant
The weft is made of bamboo rayon, a fiber derived from bamboo, so it is more absorbent and dries faster than regular tenugui. In addition, the fabric is permeated with the rare, highly antibacterial ingredient "hinokitiol" extracted from Japanese cypress trees, which gives it a strong deodorizing effect.
The biggest advantage of sports tenugui is that after wiping away sweat or using it as a wet towel, you can simply hang it on your backpack and it will dry. Although it depends on the season and weather, it will dry while you are running, so you can use it whenever you want to refresh yourself.
4. It won't fray even if you use it a lot
Regular tenugui tend to fray at the edges as you use them, but sports tenugui are sewn with a serger, so they can be used without losing their texture. The fabric is not folded over, so tenugui's characteristic quick-drying properties remain intact.
